Abstract
Imagery Rescripting (IR) has for decades now been an established psychotherapeutic intervention to reduce clinical symptoms associated with mental images. In this systematic literature review, eight studies related to psychotherapy with Imagery Rescripting in PTSD-related nightmares were studied, with the aim of highlighting the latest current knowledge within IR in psychotherapy with a focus on nightmares related to traumatic experiences. Six studies had RCT (randomized controlled) design and were reviewed using the Higgins, (2011) Cochrane risk of bias tool, as well as the Öst (2008) Psychotherapy outcome study methodology rating form. Two other studies (not RCT:s) were included in the sample and studied based on relevance, selection... (More)

The quality for the studies with RCT-designs showed overall good to decent good quality the pilot-studies with other designs lower quality, the result is described and discussed in this systematic review. Conclusions based on the studies in the sample show IR as a possible, effective intervention as symptom-reducing psychotherapeutic intervention in the treatment of trauma-related nightmares. However, the interventions were not proven to be superiorly effective compared to cognitive behavioral therapy for PTSD and sleep disturbance in the present studies.

Abstract (Swedish)
Cochranes risk of bias tool, samt Öst (2008) Psychotherapy outcome study
methodology rating form. Två andra studier (ej RCT:s) ingick i urvalet och
studerades utifrån relevans, urvalsbias, design och... (More)

studerades utifrån relevans, urvalsbias, design och generaliserbarhet. Kvaliteten
(Less)
