Komplex PTSD (C-PTSD) - en (o)känd diagnos?
(2024) PTPN06 20241Department of Psychology
- Abstract
- Since the introduction of ICD-11 in 2018, C-PTSD has been a diagnosis in the international classification of diseases. Socialstyrelsen is currently working on the Swedish translation, which is expected to be published sometime in 2025. However, C-PTSD as a concept, has been around longer than that. The aim of this study has been to examine the level of knowledge regarding C-PTSD among clinicians, with basic psychotherapy training, working in adult psychiatric outpatient clinics. The study was conducted with a qualitative method. Eight semi-structured interviews were made and analyzed through thematic analysis. The analysis resulted in three main themes: C-PTSD as a diagnosis/concept, interpretation of symptoms and treatment of C-PTSD. The... (More)

The study was conducted with a qualitative method. Eight semi-structured interviews were made and analyzed through thematic analysis. The analysis resulted in three main themes: C-PTSD as a diagnosis/concept, interpretation of symptoms and treatment of C-PTSD. The first theme reflected on knowledge of diagnosis criteria and the perception of the occurrence of C-PTSD. The second theme depicted the participants' concepts of how symptoms of C-PTSD manifested in patients and the overlap with other diagnoses. The third theme reflected on the knowledge of treatment of C-PTSD and the approach clinicians had when treating patients with symptoms like in C-PTSD. The results indicated that knowledge of C-PTSD was relatively low both regarding diagnosis criteria, assessment tools, and evidence for treatment. It also indicated gaps in knowledge concerning differentiation between C-PTSD and EIPS. However, the participants recognized that many patients had symptoms similar to those in C-PTSD and customized the treatment accordingly. This study shows the need for increased knowledge in order to provide proper care for patients with C-PTSD. (Less)

(Less)
