Abstract
Mindfulness can lead to greater self-awareness and attention to what is actually going on in the present moment within and outside of an individual. By participating in an MBSR course, you can train yourself in e.g. conscious presence and self-compassion. The purpose of the study was to find out how this knowledge could possibly be consistent with the prevention / health promotion mission of the Youth Center and whether the MBSR course could have a positive effect on the young adult participants' mental health and whether participation in the course could act as an addition to the talk treatments that the counselors offers at the center. Mindfulness can lead to greater self-awareness and attention to what is actually going on in the present moment within and outside of an individual. By participating in an MBSR course, you can train yourself in e.g. conscious presence and self-compassion. The purpose of the study was to find out how this knowledge could possibly be consistent with the prevention / health promotion mission of the Youth Center and whether the MBSR course could have a positive effect on the young adult participants' mental health and whether participation in the course could act as an addition to the talk treatments that the counselors offers at the center. The selection was comprised of 6 counselors from the Youth Center in Helsingborg and Ängelholm. The data from individual semi-structured interviews were analyzed with the support of thematic analysis. The interview analyzes produced eight themes which were intended to depict the essence of the participants' experiences. The result came to the conclusions that the participants perceived that the young adults are in an intense part of their lives and development, which can lead to high levels of stress where the space for breaks and recovery can be reduced. The participants also described that participating in the MBSR course gave the young adults the opportunity to physically experience the effects of mindfulness training and that doing this in a group together with others brought even more benefits. This study highlights the benefits of offering the young adult visitors to the Youth center the opportunity for more ways to stop, increase their awareness and broaden their view of their options through participation in the MBSR course. Mindfulness kan leda till en större självkännedom och uppmärksamhet på det som faktiskt är pågående i nuvarande ögonblick inom och utom en individ. Genom deltagande i en MBSR kurs kan en få träna sig i bl.a. medveten närvaro samt självmedkänsla. Studiens syfte var att ta reda på hur denna kunskap eventuellt kan stämma överens med Ungdomsmottagningens förebyggande / hälsofrämjande uppdrag samt om MBSR kursen kunde ha en positiv effekt på de unga vuxna deltagarnas psykiska hälsa och om deltagandet i kursen kunde verka som tillägg till de samtalsbehandlingar som kuratorerna erbjuder på mottagningen. Deltagarna beskrev också att deltagande i MBSR kurs gett de unga vuxna möjlighet att kroppsligen uppleva effekterna av mindfulnessträning samt att det medfört än fler vinster att göra detta i grupp tillsammans med andra. Denna studie lyfter vinsterna med att erbjuda de unga vuxna besökarna på Ungdomsmottagningen möjligheten till fler sätt att stanna upp, öka sin medvetenhet samt vidga synen på sina valmöjligheter på genom medverkande i MBSR kurs.
