- Abstract
- This research paper investigates the effect of the change in Sweden’s carbon reduction policy, using a Difference in differences method with Denmark as a comparative country. This is done in order to further understand the economic consequences of this change and similar changes in carbon reduction policy. This paper also aims to investigate the pricing dynamics of the diesel market in Sweden. By utilizing cross correlation and autocorrelation this paper aims to find whether the market is characterized by some sort of price leadership.

By utilizing cross correlation and autocorrelation this paper aims to find whether the market is characterized by some sort of price leadership.
The findings of this paper reveal that the policy change made on the January 1, 2024, lowered the diesel prices for end-consumers by four to five SEK, which is similar to previous forecasts made by Konjunkturinstitutet. This result is discussed both from the perspective of traditional micro economic theory as well as from a public choice-perspective.
This paper finds no evidence of a price leadership in the Swedish diesel market. This result is discussed from an oligopolistic perspective, using theories as sequential price competition and the Bertrand model.
In conclusion, this paper offers an analysis, using empirical data and economic theory to answer the research questions. (Less)
