The Paradox to Freedom: Looking into Gang Members Through the Salvadoran Perspective on Justice

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to conduct one-on-one qualitative interviews with Salvadorans to
learn about their perspectives on how the present administration is managing gang member
arrests and prisoner treatment. Throughout the study, we provided a comprehensive background
on past and current events to help the reader understand the subsequent sections. In the analysis
section, we examined direct quotes from the interviews conducted for this research. The data is
analyzed and interpreted through the theoretical lenses of penal populism and legal
consciousness along with themes found from the interviews. My findings revealed that
