Abstract
Financial abuse is a type of domestic abuse that consists of a partner taking control of your money with the intent to control you. This study aimed to examine how different professionals construct financial abuse and what kind of jurisdiction claims they do. This study is based on a gender perspective. The method decided on for this study was a qualitative study with a thematic analysis. 10 different podcasts with varying professionals were the empirical material. To analyze our empirical material, we applied two different theories, Judith Butlers' gender theory, and Andrew Abbott's profession theory to help explain how the different professionals constructed gender and their specific occupations during the podcasts. This study found that... (More)

This study found that the field of financial abuse consists of many different professions, each with their expertise and knowledge and they all construct gender in one way or another. The results showed that the professions didn’t discuss their actual obligations connected to financial abuse which results in the phenomena of financial abuse remaining unclear when it comes to who has full jurisdiction over it. This study attempted to shine a light on financial abuse and how unclear the field is related to who has responsibility. Further studies on the subject are needed to make professional responsibility clearer. (Less)
