Grandin, Embla LU (2024) NEKH04 20241
Department of Economics
Abstract
This essay describes and discusses the discount rate from an economic and a philosophical perspective. After a thorough discussion of the underlying economic and philosophical theories follows a description of the famous debate between Stern and Nordhaus, and their respective positions (the “ethicist” and the “positive” positions) are further analyzed. The final chapter summarizes the key points and discusses the question at issue, “what discount rate should we use when we evaluate climate policy?”.
