Abstract
This study aimed to investigate how health social workers who work in children and adolescent psychiatry relate to evidence-based methods. The research questions concerned how health social workers understand the concept of evidence-based practices and what opportunities and limitations they perceive with evidence-based methods in their work. A qualitative approach consisting of seven semi-structured interviews with health social workers who work in children and adolescent psychiatry was used to answer these research questions. The results were analyzed using the method of analytic bracketing which involves an alternation between looking at what the interviewees express and how they express it. The theoretical framework used to analyze the views of the interviewees was Erving Goffman's framing theory and Andrew Abott's theory of professions. The results of this study show that health social workers generally have positive attitudes towards evidence-based methods and see many advantages with them, but they also perceive some critical limitations of these methods. In particular, the health social workers observed that, in addition to good methods, the relationship with the patient and their own working experience are important factors for successful treatment.
