Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
Theories in the fields of self-perception and self-fulfilling prophecies have suggested that people's self-image and behavior can be influenced by external stimuli and previous experiences. These theories also emphasize the importance of understanding the interplay between an individual's beliefs and their behavior in various contexts. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether the experience of performance and actual performance can be influenced by a preceding task, depending on whether this task was perceived as either challenging or easy. To investigate this, a pilot study was conducted in which 20 participants were subjected to a memory test with two different difficulty levels as preparatory conditions. Afterwards, the... (More)
Theories in the fields of self-perception and self-fulfilling prophecies have suggested that people's self-image and behavior can be influenced by external stimuli and previous experiences. Afterwards, the participants performed a cognitive problem-solving test and assessed their perceived performance in connection with the execution of the test. The hypothesis was that there would be a significant difference in perceived and actual performance depending on whether the participants had performed an easy or difficult task in the preceding test. The results showed that regardless of condition, there was no significant effect of the preparatory condition on how participants assessed their perceived performance. Furthermore, there was no significant correlation between the preparatory condition and the participants' performance on the cognitive problem-solving test. In light of these results, we can conclude that, despite the theories' predictions about the relationship between self-fulfilling prophecies, self-perception, and behavior, there was no direct impact on how the participants perceived their performance or their actual performance in the cognitive problem-solving test.
