Abstract
Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder that attacks a person's nervous system. The disease is incurable and can cause cognitive symptoms such as tremors and impaired movement. A Parkinson's patient has several different caregivers. It is important that the patient has access to palliative care throughout the disease. To assist patients and healthcare providers, a support plan has been developed in a paper version. It contains all of the patient's care and care preferences in one place. However when the plan was tested it wasn't working as intended. The reason was that patients found it difficult to carry it with them to medical appointments. To assist patients and healthcare providers, a support plan has been developed in a paper version. It contains all of the patient's care and care preferences in one place. However when the plan was tested it wasn't working as intended. The reason was that patients found it difficult to carry it with them to medical appointments. The goal of this project is to digitize the support plan and therefore make it easier to use. During this project the development environment Android Studio was used to create an application. The project was carried out at Lund University of Technology in collaboration with the Neurology Research Unit at Skånes University hospital, with Monica Scharfenort as our clinical supervisor. The application uses SQLite to store patient information in a database. The digital support plan has a user-friendly interface that allows patients to easily input information, even with cognitive issues. Patients can also receive assistance from relatives and caregivers when filling in the information. By developing the application, patient care will be facilitated so that they receive the best possible care and that their wishes are fulfilled. The aspiration with the application is also to make healthcare in the area of Parkinson's disease more efficient. (Less)
