- Abstract
- This paper is a systematic literature review with the aim to build a foundation for future research on leadership in aircrews focusing on the characteristics of ad hoc teams and multiteam systems. Research questions are: How is leadership performed in an ad hoc multiteam system-aircrew? And, how can a leader of an aircrew mitigate the challenges of leading an ad hoc multiteam system-aircrew? Twelve articles were reviewed following a systematic search using LUBsearch and a complementary search using Google Scholar. The results show leadership styles and behaviours, ad hoc team characteristics and the system of leading several different teams within a larger multiteam system. The paper points out the importance that leaders of aircrews... (More)

The results show leadership styles and behaviours, ad hoc team characteristics and the system of leading several different teams within a larger multiteam system. The paper points out the importance that leaders of aircrews understand leadership in both ad hoc team formation and multiteam systems. The paper suggests three future areas of research: a larger literature study to build a larger and broader foundation, research within abusive supervision in ad hoc aircrews and research within shared leadership in aircrews.
