Abstract
The aim of this paper is to examine the effect of maternal and neonatal health on economic growth in low- and middle-income countries between the years 2000-2019. Previous studies indicate that health has a positive effect on economic growth. To examine the effect of maternal and neonatal health on economic growth a multiple regression analysis with panel data has been used. The theoretical framework applied to the study is mainly the demographic transition model, the Solow model and the Lucas model. Results from the regression indicate that neonatal mortality has a significant negative effect on economic growth. Other health variables for maternal and neonatal health might influence economic growth, but due to multicollinearity the true... (More)

Results from the regression indicate that neonatal mortality has a significant negative effect on economic growth. Other health variables for maternal and neonatal health might influence economic growth, but due to multicollinearity the true effect is difficult to determine. In conclusion, the paper indicates that it can be economically beneficial for countries to invest in neonatal health. (Less)
