To achieve this objective, the method necessitates collaboration among The Swedish Police Authority, The Swedish Prosecution Authority, The National Board of Forensic Medicine, The Swedish Prison and Probation Service, and the Swedish courts.
This study focuses on The Swedish Prison and Probation Service, particularly The Probation Service, as Faster Prosecution pertains to this part of the agency. It aims to elucidate the perspective of probation officers employed at the Malmö probation office regarding their work with Faster Prosecution, including interagency collaboration. This study comprises five qualitative interviews with probation officers, which are analyzed utilizing Lipsky’s theoretical framework on discretion, supplemented by previous research on caseload and interagency collaboration.
This study highlights advantages, disadvantages, and areas of improvement that probation officers experience while working with Faster Prosecution. The result notes its beneficial aspect, reducing the time between offense and trial, potentially easing clients' psychological burden. However, probation officers face challenges due to heavy caseloads, leading to rushed work and needing to prioritize cases. Difficulties in client communication within set timeframes, along with a reliance on digital correspondence over traditional methods, are identified. Additionally, obstacles with interagency collaboration arise from a lack of communication and inconsistent selection criteria. Addressing these issues is crucial for a more efficient legal process.
