Abstract (Swedish)
Detta examensarbete handlar dels om fenomenet om hur musikerns direkta
upplevelse av ett ljud kan skilja sig från hur samma ljud låter när man spelar in
det, men också dels om gehörets betydelse för musikerskapet som helhet. Likt
sättet vi människor tänker via språket kan musiker lära sig att tänka sig musiken
fast den inte fysiskt finns där. I den engelskspråkiga världen finns det en term för
det, audiation.

Uppsatsen är uppbyggd av tre metoder. En inspelningsanalys, två intervjuer med
två av Musikhögskolan i Malmös lärare och en litteraturstudie. Mitt resultat av
mina tre metoder är att gehör verkligen spelar roll för musikern och att
diskrepansen mellan den egna upplevelsen av ett ljud och en inspelning av samma

This thesis is partly about the phenomenon of how sound can be perceived
differently in a comparison between the perceived sound and the experience of
the sound, but also about the importance of ear training generally for music
making. In a similar way we use language to think, musicians can think the music
silently in advance. In English, the term audiation has been used to describe this
phenomenon.

The thesis consists of three methods. An analysis of a recording, two interviews
with two of the Malmö Academy of Music teachers, and a literature study. The
result of my three methods is that having a good ear is important for a musician
and that the discrepancy between your own experience of a sound and a recording
