Abstract (Swedish)
In response to escalating public health challenges, particularly concerning mental health issues among youth, manual-based interventions have gained prominence in Sweden. In response to escalating public health challenges, particularly concerning mental health issues among youth, manual-based interventions have gained prominence in Sweden. These interventions are increasingly seen as integral components of proactive measures to address the escalating rates of mental illness. This study focuses on the implementation of the evidence-based program Youth Awareness of Mental Health (YAM) in Lund, a municipality situated in southern Sweden. Lund's decision to adopt YAM reflects its commitment to combating the pressing mental health concerns affecting its young population. By delving into the work of YAM implementation, this study seeks to illuminate the perspectives and roles of professionals engaged in the process. By presenting the obstacles they encounter and identifying essential strategies for enhancing program efficiency, this research aims to optimize mental health intervention implementation processes.

Employing a multifaceted approach that combines in-depth interviews with observations, this study offers a comprehensive exploration of YAM implementation in Lund. Engaging with key stakeholders and drawing insights from relevant literature provides an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the implementation process within the municipality. Among the key findings, this study underscores the pressing need for proactive measures to address mental illness within the municipality. Furthermore, it identifies potential areas for refinement and development within Lund's existing structures and implementation processes. Specifically, the study highlights the importance of fidelity and sustainability in ensuring the long-term effectiveness of mental health interventions like YAM.

Ultimately, this study sheds light on the complexities of implementing manual-based interventions in real-world settings and offers valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders involved in public health planning and implementation. By addressing the identified challenges and capitalizing on the opportunities for improvement, Lund and similar municipalities can strengthen their capacity to safeguard the mental well-being of their youth populations.
