Abstract
This text is a qualitative study based on six interviews with women who have been surrogates in Denmark under the legal altruistic surrogacy model, which means that women may not receive money for being surrogates and that surrogacy may only take place through the so-called nærhedsprincip, where the parties must be in close relationships (family, close friends, etc.). Their experience of being surrogates in the meeting with the Danish legislation have been the main focus of the interviews.

The study examines how the surrogates' view of the relationship with the intended parents, biology, pregnancy as a shared project and the encounter with the state are parts of their understanding of forming new kinships and how they navigate the local and global landscape that the legislation creates. Through a queer-theoretical look at kinship studies, it will therefore be investigated how Danish surrogates experience their agency under the current legislation, and what their views on biology, family and rights tells us about the perception of and the possibility of forming kinships that confirm or breaks with the normative heterosexual nuclear family.
