This study explores how the Women's Entrepreneurship Development Centres have been fulfilling their main role of supporting and promoting female entrepreneurship by operating to deliver initiatives where they address the barriers that female entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan face. By employing a conceptual framework that is specifically designed for developing countries, this study investigates how the tool such as WEDCs can address challenges including financial limitations, insufficient knowledge, and socio-cultural impediments. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with WEDCs consultants across four regions in Kazakhstan and supplemented by secondary sources. The study highlights the WEDCs’ role in its intended role of empowering women, improving support among women and enhancing entrepreneurial skills. The results indicate that WEDCs have made important contributions to the development of female entrepreneurship through the delivery of specialised training, financial assistance, and networking opportunities. Recommendations for future research include expanding the study to all regions of Kazakhstan where WEDCs have been established and incorporating quantitative methods to measure the economic impact of WEDCs. This study highlights the critical role of WEDCs in supporting women entrepreneurs and suggests ways to enhance their effectiveness in fostering gender equality in Kazakhstan. (Less)
