Abstract
The primary focus of this thesis is to investigate young people's attitudes towards modern dating culture in Sweden. Specifically, it examines their various practices and opinions when initiating potential romantic relationships in a modern digital society, aiming to gain in-depth insight into their thought processes as they navigate the dating sphere. Considering the widespread integration of digital technology into everyday life, this study explores its impact on social relations, particularly among young people who have grown up alongside its growth. By investigating young adults between the ages of 20-29, the research aims to shed light on the new social norms and practices within the dating culture of this specific demographic. A... (More)
The primary focus of this thesis is to investigate young people's attitudes towards modern dating culture in Sweden. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a quantitative survey as a pilot study and qualitative group interviews. The qualitative aspect involved four groups, each consisting of three participants, including both young men and women. The findings of this thesis reveal a complex landscape of attitudes towards online and offline dating. While there are both positive and negative perceptions of online dating, the results indicate a strong preference among the target group for offline dating when given the choice. These findings suggest that, despite the convenience and popularity of digital platforms, traditional face-to-face interactions remain highly valued in the context of romantic relationships among young adults in Sweden. These insights contribute to a broader understanding of how digital technology influences dating behaviours and preferences, highlighting the nuanced ways in which young people integrate digital and traditional practices in their romantic lives.
