From the material gathered it could be said that, according to the social workers, psychiatric care for the homeless was severely lacking. The same could be said for the municipality´s general attitude towards affordable housing, which in combination with a debt problem among the homeless creates a situation where the homelessness goes on for a longer period. It was also concluded that the social workers believed extensive drug use, often in combination with mental illness, was the leading cause of homelessness in Malmö. This study could be used as a talking point for making changes within the municipality and its policies regarding the homeless. (Less)
