Why do we care? - Exploring product longevity
(2024) IDEM05 20241Industrial Design
- Abstract
- This project is an exploration of what product longevity is, the role of the user and how to design for a desired behaviour. This project is conducted through two parts. The first part aims to learn from professionals in the field through a study trip to Stockholm and Östersund, whereas the second part presents a chance to portray these findings through the development of a physical object in co-operation with Trangia. The factors found in the first part, that is believed to affect how we care for products, are many. For this realisation, three of the factors were selected to be reflected on and implemented in a physical object. Sharing, creating memories and telling stories. This project illustrates the importance of reflecting on user... (More)

For this realisation, three of the factors were selected to be reflected on and implemented in a physical object. Sharing, creating memories and telling stories. This project illustrates the importance of reflecting on user behaviour as a designer to understand the implications of a relationship to a product and how this affects product longevity. The result is a concept for a large-scale alcohol stove, providing the opportunity to cook for more people, having something to gather around to tell stories and a platform for creating memories.
