Abstract
Background: Qualified personnel are of utmost importance from a societal perspective to provide residents with high-quality care and promote health. The mentoring of newly employed nurses can sometimes be inadequate and, in the worst case, absent, which threatens patient safety as new nurses become insecure in their professional roles. Research exists on mentoring and the role of the mentor, as well as its effects on newly graduated nurses' transition from student to registered nurse. However, their focus has not specifically been on emergency care.
Aim: The aim of the study was to highlight the significance of mentoring for newly employed nurses within emergency care. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted,... (More)

Method: A systematic literature review was conducted, featuring a qualitative content analysis of twelve articles, where the collected data was analyzed using an inductive approach.
Results: The findings resulted in two themes and a total of eight categories. All twelve studies demonstrated that mentorship in emergency care plays a crucial role in supporting newly employed nurses in their development and ensuring the quality of care.
Conclusion: To facilitate successful mentorship, it is important to have organizational conditions, such as allocating time and resources, which underscores the need to prioritize mentorship within emergency care. The study indicates a need for further research in this area, particularly regarding the perspectives of mentors and how mentoring can be effectively applied in acute situations. (Less)

(Less)
