- Abstract
- This thesis examines communal living as a vision for future living. It covers historical communal living and its translation into modern-day practices. It explores our needs within communal living spaces along with the challenges they bring and investigates how design can balance private and communal spaces to support our evolving needs.
The project outcome is a privacy sofa designed to support flexibility and accommodate various activities within shared spaces. It addresses the need for privacy within communal areas, suits different cultures and lifestyles, and promotes healthier living.
