Abstract
The purpose of this study is to add to the existing knowledge within the study of a political party’s development of ideology over time and the impact of ideology within the sphere of politics in Sweden in the present society by analyzing how Moderaterna relates to their ideological basics, conservatism and liberalism. The applied method in the study is an analysis of ideology defined by Göran Bergström and Kristina Boréus. The developed tool of analysis stems from dimensions inspired by Jan Hylén, which has helped me develop a scheme of analysis.

The purpose of this study is to add to the existing knowledge within the study of a political party’s development of ideology over time and the impact of ideology within the sphere of politics in Sweden in the present society by analyzing how Moderaterna relates to their ideological basics, conservatism and liberalism. The applied method in the study is an analysis of ideology defined by Göran Bergström and Kristina Boréus. The results from the analysis display that Moderaterna primarily are characterized by liberalism since the core of the studied documents concerns liberty of individuals, autonomy, and a market economy with the purpose to promote liberty and freedom of choice. The analysis shows that conservatism primarily works as a complementing ideology intending to establish stability and a long-term perspective but also to act as a tool to reach and maintain the liberal values. Thus, the conclusion that Moderaterna are characterized by liberalism between the years 2002 and 2022 in the highest extent while conservatism fills a complementing role which showcases that this study’s conclusions follows that same pattern as previous research has shown.
