The results show that gendered patterns are more apparent in municipal councils with a low proportion of women. The large-n study use data from The Swedish Local and Regional Council Survey 2017 and test whether the proportion of women in local councils influence how the electives perceive that they have influence over local politics, and the extent to which female interests/opinions are prioritized by the survey respondents. The results did not show any link between the proportion of women in local office and the representatives’ stance on the survey questions. Female politicians were, however, overall, more inclined to represent women’s issues/interests than their male colleagues. Thus, the essay concludes that it is still of importance that women and men are equally represented in local office. (Less)
