The following essay accordingly explored the relationship between confidential informants and their handlers, through a comparative case study. The field concerning confidential informant research is considered limited, in terms of scrutinizing studies of individual cases that can demonstrate characteristics related to performing these high-risk operations. Examining two historically significant cases explored through biographies, this study incorporates a congruence analysis of the social psychological framework of RASCLS. Throughout the analysis, it becomes evident that the applicability of this theoretical framework on cases of informants is both appropriate and expedient. In summary, the essay concludes that the levels of congruence between theory and observations additionally presented an understanding of the recruitment process, as well as the development of an influential relationship, where the handler in different ways motivated the confidential informant to continue with the task at hand. Further studies on this matter would do well in exploring these qualitative values, where the current field of research otherwise tends to focus on quantitative statistics in the pursuit of functionable methods for criminal intelligence (Less)
