- Abstract
- This paper examines how the Swedish government speaks about so called “enablers” or
“facilitators”, also known as infiltrators for criminal networks in legal structures, and what aspects of the discourse points to a securitization of the issue. In other words, the study aims to examine how the threat is constructed semantically through “speech-act”. Based on the Copenhagen School’s view on securitization theory and some influences from Williams and Balzacq, I then construct a theoretical framework of securitization. I also construct my own set of framework for discourse analysis based on the theoretical framework. My conclusion is that the discourse contains depictions of an existential threat to a valued referent object, both in the political and societal sector. Moreover, the nature of this threat is such that it calls for
action and there is a rhetorical structure of “if not…, then…”. Lastly, the measures taken are described both as examples of emergency measures and the “exceptional politics” that characterizes securitization theory, but also of actions that points to a politicization. (Less)
