Abstract
In 1999, Sweden became the first country in the world to criminalize the purchase of sex rather than the selling of it. During this time, the Netherlands revoked its ban on brothels, which made prostitution legal but partly regulated by the government. The purpose of this study has been to investigate social workers' views on prostitution in Sweden and the Netherlands. The study was conducted through a qualitative interview method that applied liberal and radical feminist theory. Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers in Sweden and the Netherlands. The results showed that social workers in Sweden and the Netherlands have various views on prostitution, which legislation and feminism have an impact on.
