Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers active in the field. The social workers had diverse backgrounds and have worked in the field for 1 to 10 years. The result indicates that lack of trust is a challenge for social workers, making their work like “starting uphill". Clarity and transparency were key strategies social workers use to form realistic client expectations. Another theme that the social workers meant was important was being humane with the clients and balancing their roles as professionals and as a person. Being humane included showing respect, trusting their clients, and validating their concerns about forced child care removal. Time was identified as an essential factor for building trust and relationships. However, time was also described as challenging in building and maintaining trust and relationships. The reason for this is a lack of time and a heavy workload. (Less)
