The study's results showed three dominant themes in the news reporting: girls as victims, girls as perpetrators, and girls who deviated from the institutions. However, the study emphasizes that the majority of the articles do position the girls as victims. The findings reinforce the normative notions that exist about girls as victims and men as perpetrators. At the same time, some articles construct girls as perpetrators of serious violent crimes, which violates the norms of femininity. (Less)
