(2025) SBUM22 20242Department of Health Sciences
- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less) - Abstract

Results: The results of the study are presented in four main themes: Sources of knowledge about breastfeeding; The value of support during the breastfeeding journey; The mother's attitude toward breastfeeding; and The physical breastfeeding experience.
Conclusion: The mothers expressed that there were various factors that promote and inhibit the initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding. They felt that education from healthcare professionals was crucial for initiating breastfeeding. Furthermore, mothers believed that support from healthcare professionals, partners, and other loved ones was of great importance for maintaining breastfeeding. The mother's expectations, attitude, and determination to
breastfeed were factors that influenced her breastfeeding journey. Mothers experience that the public perception of breastfeeding and the lack of support in the workplace upon returning to work were factors that inhibited the maintenance of breastfeeding. (Less)
