The methodological approach is grounded in a phenomenological and narrative perspective, aiming to capture the structure and essence of the narratives. The analysis was conducted using narrative theory and biographical work. In summary, narratives illuminate identities and lifeworlds. This study reveals that older migrants from the Middle East aging in Sweden share experiences of belonging, alienation, xenophobia, existential conditions, and the long-lasting impact of migration on identity. These narratives often reflect el-ghorbe (alienation) that emerges in the space between a homeland and a new context. The stories of Middle Eastern migrants contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between aging and migration in a foreign context. By highlighting the life stories of older migrants, this study aims to promote more inclusive and just aging research, while reducing the risk of older migrants being marginalized in public discourse. However, further research is needed, as significant knowledge gaps remain regarding the lived experiences of older migrants. Addressing these gaps is crucial for future generations who will age in Sweden. (Less)
