The theoretical framework for the study was the systems theory described by Öquist (2024) and Hirdman's (2007) theory about gender systems. The study showed that several perpetrators were acting in a large system, there was not solely one perpetrator rather several that contributed to the oppression as well as the upholding of honor culture through various roles. Additionally, the results showed the complexity behind the perpetrators' actions and their dual role as both perpetrators but also victims of the system. It also appeared that the perpetrators' role could be active, passive, encouraging as well as facilitating. The study found how the individual was affected by the norms and values of the community and how each person was shaped and sanctioned through various types of social control to stay in line with the will of the system. The most prominent aspect that was found through the study was the power of the collective and how individual needs always came second to what the collective wanted. (Less)
