Abstract
This study examines the role of HR in managing the COVID-19 crisis within Sweden´s public sector. Using semi-structured interviews with HR professionals from various organizations, it explores their experiences, the challenges they faced and the lessons learned to improve future crisis management. The research highlights how HR played an important role in supporting employees well being while also helping organizations navigate in various changes that came from the pandemic. It also reveals the importance of good communication, teamwork and flexibility depending on how the crisis evolved. The research highlights how HR played an important role in supporting employees well being while also helping organizations navigate in various changes that came from the pandemic. It also reveals the importance of good communication, teamwork and flexibility depending on how the crisis evolved. Furthermore, the study provides insights into the lessons HR can draw from the pandemic, highlighting the importance of crisis support routines and preventive actions, and how these can contribute to better preparedness for future challenges. The study provides an opportunity for future research to explore the private sector and both managers and HR to gain insight into their similar or differing perceptions about the HR role during crisis.
