- Abstract
- This study investigates whether the amortization requirements introduced in Sweden in 2016 and 2018 have achieved their objectives, namely to reduce household debt ratios and dampen housing prices. The analysis is based on three hypotheses: the first examines the impact on the debt ratio, the second on housing prices, and the third explores whether the effects on housing prices vary across regions depending on income levels. The study utilizes econometric analysis with national time series data for the debt ratio and regional panel data from ten regions for housing prices. A total of nine regressions are estimated using OLS, three for each hypothesis. The results support the first hypothesis but not the other two, suggesting that further... (More)

The results support the first hypothesis but not the other two, suggesting that further research is required to better understand the relationship between amortization requirements, household debt, and the housing market.
