Abstract
The profession of social work is a demanding and mentally taxing job. Studies show that social workers use survival strategies that put their health and quality of work at risk, such as the choice to simplify their work and skip tasks. It has been proved that social workers find it challenging to perform their jobs satisfactorily and are often required to work overtime. The Swedish Work Environment Authority carried out an inspection of Swedish social services, which revealed serious issues with unhealthy working environment conditions. The inspection covered 50% of Sweden's social services and identified several risk areas, including the organizational and social work environment. This study aims to investigate if there is a relationship... (More)

The Swedish Work Environment Authority carried out an inspection of Swedish social services, which revealed serious issues with unhealthy working environment conditions. The inspection covered 50% of Sweden's social services and identified several risk areas, including the organizational and social work environment. This study aims to investigate if there is a relationship between recovery strategies and social workers' mental health. This study is based on a quantitative method where data has been collected through a web survey and sent to participants who are working in Swedish social services. In order to explore this, statistical tests were conducted and the results suggest there is a weak positive relationship between recovery strategies and social workers’ mental health, however the relationship is not statistically significant. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the participants who used recovery strategies more frequently per week experienced a significantly greater improvement in their mental health compared to those who dedicated less time to recovery. Furthermore, the results showed that participants who experienced higher levels of stress at work engaged more in recovery. We therefore conclude that there is a positive relationship between recovery strategies and social workers' mental health, however the relationship is not statistically significant. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
