- Abstract
- This study focuses on attitudes towards ADHD in social work amongst social workers diagnosed with ADHD, their managers, and their colleagues. The study consists of six semi-structured interviews, done mostly over video calls. Two of the participants are social workers diagnosed with ADHD and four of the participants are managers who have co-workers that have been diagnosed with ADHD. The result has shown that managers have an accepting attitude towards ADHD in the workplace due to their level of knowledge. I have thus concluded that knowledge gives understanding. I have also discovered that amongst the participating social workers who are diagnosed with ADHD, that knowledge of themselves and their ADHD, they have become more accepting... (More)

I have also discovered that amongst the participating social workers who are diagnosed with ADHD, that knowledge of themselves and their ADHD, they have become more accepting towards themselves and their needs. Another discovery is that not everyone diagnosed with ADHD dares to share this at their workplace for fear of being judged. Some social workers can feel ashamed. At the same time, it emerged that some employees lack acceptance towards their colleagues diagnosed with ADHD. My conclusion is that this is mainly because of a lack of knowledge about what ADHD means, but above all because they interact directly with co-workers and the symptoms that ADHD can bring. I therefore want to illustrate how important it is to know about ADHD to reduce stigma in workplaces within social work. (Less)
