Abstract
This master’s thesis was done in collaboration with Qlik with the aim of investigating and comparing the onboarding process between the Business intelligence (BI) tools Qlik Sense and Power BI. BI tools are used to transform raw data into structured information that can be strategically used for decision-making. The study followed an iterative design process, where the first iteration was to identify usability problems through predetermined tasks that would be performed by selected users during a certain time frame. The results from the testing were used to develop low-fidelity prototypes for both tools that were later tested. The results from the testing of the

The study followed an iterative design process, where the first iteration was to identify usability problems through predetermined tasks that would be performed by selected users during a certain time frame. The results from the testing were used to develop low-fidelity prototypes for both tools that were later tested. The results from the testing of the
low-fidelity prototypes were rewarding but not concrete enough to draw any conclusions. The final step in the design process was to develop a High-fidelity prototype for both tools in Figma that was based on the low-fidelity prototypes. The results from the testing of the high-fidelity prototypes solidified the results from the previous iteration and showed that the more intuitive the tool is, the better the user experience. It also showed that there is a strong connection between the cognitive load during the use of the tools and the user’s overall satisfaction with the tools (Less)
