The study’s aim is to examine the validity of this policy, in relation to the concept of solidarity. The study then examines how these duties are to be interpreted and follows up on those conclusions by analysing whether Swedish security policy can be said to act on those duties. By analysing the latest total defence strategy adopted by parliament, the study finds that the targets set for the Swedish armed forces are not sufficient in ensuring the states solidary duties, and that there is an evident risk that Swedish policy makers have confused solidarity with self-interest. Swedish participation in the EU is however in line with said duties. (Less)
