Abstract
This thesis examines how Sweden's security policies have changed since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and explores to what extent the invasion can explain the various changes. The study uses the combination of document analysis with both descriptive and explanatory case study to answer the two research questions. To broaden the debate the framework from Barry Buzan's book “People, States and fears” (1991) is applied. The study presents five units of analysis, which reveal that Sweden has implemented policies that embrace alliances with the western world through Nato, bilateral cooperation, strategies and laws. The new policies are largely due to the invasion but vary in influence for each unit, other actors such as China and Iran have also... (More)

The study presents five units of analysis, which reveal that Sweden has implemented policies that embrace alliances with the western world through Nato, bilateral cooperation, strategies and laws. The new policies are largely due to the invasion but vary in influence for each unit, other actors such as China and Iran have also contributed to shaping some of Sweden's new security policies. The new
policies are meant to help secure Sweden by reducing both outside and inside threats in addition to help navigate an uncertain period of time by reducing the country's own vulnerabilities. The results can be used to understand how and why the policies have changed and may be used as a foundation for further research. (Less)
