Abstract
In recent years, there has been a growing scholarly interest in the part that men play in governmental work concerning violence against women. Few research projects have focused on the Swedish context and the part that norm-changing interventions play in governmental work. This study investigates how much the Swedish government emphasizes norm altering work and the participation of men in strategies and action programs. The theoretical basis consists of social constructivism, feminism and theories about men’s participation in the work against gendered violence. Through a document analysis of relevant data from the government and different government agencies, the study concludes that the need for men’s participation is underlined in theoretical discussions but rarely transferred into practical measures. There is also a constant need for further research and evaluation of the practical measures, but it is hard to navigate the intersectoral work which leads to a lack of evaluation. Further research in the field can focus on the practical consequences of the governmental work, to see whether or not the intended effects are taking place. (Less)
