Abstract
This thesis examines the theory of technopopulism, defined as an organized political logic that combines technocratic and populist forms of rule. According to Christopher J Bickerton & Carlo Invernizzi Accetti the technopopulist political logic is dominating contemporary European democratic societies since the beginning of the 1990ies. This essay therefore aims to test this theory on Swedish contemporary politics. Through the methodology of an idea analysis, this study examines the technopopulist tendencies of Swedish government declerations from the years 1976-1988 and 2006-2022. By using Weberian ideal types that are operationally defined by the theoretical framework. The empirical documents are analyzed in relation to the... (More)

Through the methodology of an idea analysis, this study examines the technopopulist tendencies of Swedish government declerations from the years 1976-1988 and 2006-2022. By using Weberian ideal types that are operationally defined by the theoretical framework. The empirical documents are analyzed in relation to the operationalized indicators and later presented. The findings show that there seems to be a technopopulist switch in Swedish contemporary politics. This could potentially be harmful for the democratic representation of Swedish society. This research contributes to the existing literature on technopopulism as well as research on democratic backsliding in western democracies. (Less)
