- Abstract
- This paper analyzes the political communication and ideological positioning of the Danish People’s Party and the Sweden Democrats in 2025, through the lens of Cas Mudde’s theory of the populist radical right, emphasizing nativism, authoritarianism, and populism. The analysis shows that both parties strongly exhibit nativist and authoritarian rhetoric, portraying immigration particularly from Muslim-majority countries a cultural and security threat. Populist elements are also present, especially in their criticism of elites and portrayal of themselves as defenders of “the people.” Additionally, using Petrocik’s and Meguid’s theories of issue ownership, we demonstrate how both parties have established dominance over immigration and...
