- Abstract
- This master thesis focuses on redesigning the Competence profile within Grade AB’s product Grade Talent. The Competence profile is a competence management tool that enables managers, HR departments, and employees to track and overview em- ployee capabilities. Our work aimed to enhance usability through interface restruc- turing while implementing new functionality to visualize competence development. Through an iterative design process centered on user needs, we identified and ad- dressed key usability challenges. The redesign reduced interface clutter and imple- mented a ’comparison over time’ feature that allows users to visualize competence development between two points. We conducted two rounds of user testing, with evaluation and redesign following each iteration. The resulting interface offers im- proved navigation and clearer visualization of competence development through in- tuitive diagrams. A significant challenge throughout the process was accommodating the diverse ways Grade’s customers utilize the Competence profile. Our research re- vealed that users interact with the tool differently based on their organizational needs, making it difficult to develop a universal solution that optimally serves all users. The final prototype delivers enhanced functionality while addressing core usability is- sues, though it acknowledges the inherent challenge of creating a single interface is optimal serves for all usages within Grade’s diverse customer base.
