- Abstract
- This study explore how visitors experience "time travel" at an open-air museum, focusing on reconstructed buildings at Fredriksdal Museums and gardens in Helsingborg. Through interviews, observations and thematic coding the research identifies elements that enhance the sense of historical immersion. Using David Kolb's experiential learning theory the analysis reveal that learning occurs through sensory engagement, movement and reflection. Participants describe the visit as authentic and emotionally engaging often highlighting the value of physically entering historical spaces. Various learning styles - assimilating, diverging, converging and accommodating - were observed, illustrating that open-air museum support diverse ways of learning.... (More)
