Abstract
Soil ecosystems are under pressure from a variety of anthropogenic drivers. Yet, we know surprisingly little about the soil biota, which is believed to be the basis of healthy soils. This thesis explores how Danish agricultural advisors work with soil biota to ensure sustainable soil management.Through qualitative interviews, practices, and challenges in caring for soil biota are revealed, uncovering the nature of human-soil relations in agricultural advisory services. The concept of care places living soils and the interdependence between soil biota and society at the center of the analysis. The findings identify practices, ways of thinking, and structures surrounding human-soil relations, and suggest that addressing structural barriers,...
