- Abstract
- The Azerbaijani city of Shusha stands out as an exemplary place for reconstruction based on the principles of sustainable development in the post-conflict era. This research examines the city of Shusha’s aim of building a sustainable city model from scratch and focuses on two major directions: the transition to solar-based systems in the city’s energy supply and the establishment of a clean transport infrastructure that ensures the mobility of the population. Based on 14 interviews with residents of Shusha and urban planners as well as on-site observations, I determined that the local community is generally positive about sustainable reconstruction, but prefers approaches that are adapted to pre-conflict living habits rather than profound... To assess the potential of a sustainable development plan for Shusha, the Socio-Ecological Systems (SES) Framework, which studies human-environment relationship, is employed. (Less)
