Envisioning Shusha: paving the way for sustainable urban energy and mobility futures

Abstract
The Azerbaijani city of Shusha stands out as an exemplary place for reconstruction based on the principles of sustainable development in the post-conflict era. This research examines the city of Shusha’s aim of building a sustainable city model from scratch and focuses on two major directions: the transition to solar-based systems in the city’s energy supply and the establishment of a clean transport infrastructure that ensures the mobility of the population. Based on 14 interviews with residents of Shusha and urban planners as well as on-site observations, I determined that the local community is generally positive about sustainable reconstruction, but prefers approaches that are adapted to pre-conflict living habits rather than profound...
