The purpose of this paper is to understand the relations between professionals within professions in the Swedish welfare system, based on interviews with 6 different administrators within Swedish social services. We aim to research how this cooperation affects our informants' work as well as the processes that complicate collaborative work between professionals. Our results showed a collective dissatisfaction that showed that gaps in knowledge between different professionals caused issues in the cooperation processes. These gaps are rooted in the professions themselves, and a cognitive bias relating to knowledge. The road to bridging these gaps can be found in professional relationships, based on mutual understanding. We found that professional relationships thrived with frequent and informative communication, which helped bridge the knowledge gaps between professionals. Furthermore, we found that certain organisations tended to cooperate more frequently with each other, which resulted in more effective relationships and cooperation between professionals. (Less)
