Social workers come in contact with the target group by referrals or by one individual's own choice. Social workers describe the contact with the target group as difficult, something that is made more difficult by shame, stigma, and the authoritative nature of social services. The support is carried out without standardized methods and is based on conversations and psychoeducational approaches, where trusting relationships are seen as crucial. Working with shame and anger is highlighted as important to incorporate with the target group. In terms of challenges, the social workers perceive the concept of "perpetrator of violence" as stigmatizing and an attempt to focus on behavior rather than identity, not to reinforce negative stigmatization and further complicate contact with the target group. They also highlight organizational and bureaucratic obstacles that affect clients' willingness to seek help. (Less)
