Seven interviews were conducted with professionals and volunteers working at women's shelters. A thematic analysis was applied to identify three major themes: the working methods of women's shelters and older women's shelters, being an older woman, and abused & barriers to help-seeking. The analysis is based on an intersectional approach to show how age and gender intersect and affect older women in domestic violence. The study reveals substantial challenges in reaching out to older women. A significant part of their work is therefore dedicated to increasing visibility and knowledge regarding domestic violence against older women. Additionally, the interviewees also emphasized various barriers older women might face when seeking help, including traditional values, fear of loneliness or abandonment, financial dependency, feeling of guilt and shame, lack of awareness, and lastly, the complexity of the perpetrators.
