- Abstract
- The purpose of our study was to examine the attitude of police officers toward collaborating with social services in exit programs, with a specific focus on organizational conditions and the relationship between the authorities. The empirical data consisted of interviews with six police officers, three of whom are based in Malmö, Sweden. The other three were located in different local police districts in central Sweden. Five of the six officers work with exit programs daily. The study was based on a qualitative method, using semi-structured interviews. - The purpose of our study was to examine the attitude of police officers toward collaborating with social services in exit programs, with a specific focus on organizational conditions and the relationship between the authorities. The empirical data consisted of interviews with six police officers, three of whom are based in Malmö, Sweden. The other three were located in different local police districts in central Sweden. Five of the six officers work with exit programs daily. The study was based on a qualitative method, using semi-structured interviews. The analysis used organizational theory and collaboration theory to highlight the organizational conditions and structures, as well as to analyze how the authorities cooperated. The study found that the police viewed collaboration with social services in exit programs as important and generally effective, though it varied based on municipal resources. Furthermore, the study found that trust and close contact between police and social workers enhanced collaboration, with flexibility promoting the process. Moreover, the results suggest that collaboration between authorities aided in understanding the individual from a holistic perspective. This is of particular importance, seeing as clients were often facing multiple challenges such as substance abuse or mental health problems, in addition to their criminal offence. These additional challenges would require interventions from both the police and social services (Less)
